NYSID Distance Course Format Descriptions:

DL (sometimes referred to as Self-Paced or Asynchronous): These courses follow a weekly schedule that allows students to engage with course content offered in a variety of formats and media, and to complete weekly assignments at their own pace within each week-long module on our LMS (Learning Management System), Canvas. Students build relationships with fellow students and faculty through discussion posts, individual feedback, and sharing voice and/or video recordings. Some studio courses also offer periodic web-supported meetings. Weekly content generally opens on Monday mornings and final submissions for the week are generally due on the following Sunday, some courses may differ, please check the schedule in your individual course.

DR (sometimes referred to as Real-Time or Synchronous): These courses follow the same schedule as traditional onsite courses, with scheduled days and times for courses to meet. Classes use web-supported conferencing technology that allows students and faculty to interact in a similar way to onsite classrooms. Course handouts, supporting content, and assignment submissions use our LMS (Learning Management System) Canvas.
